The Duke and Duchess of Sussex say they are working “to build a better world” in a message that looks to 2021.
In an open letter on the website for their nonprofit Archewell, Harry and Meghan pay tribute to mothers and encourage acts of compassion.
Featuring images of the couple with their respective mothers – Harry en Princess Diana shoulders and Meghan hugging Doria Ragland – the couple’s “letter for 2021” says that “together, we can choose to put compassion into action.”
The letter’s launch comes as Archewell announces partnerships with several research-focused and technology groups.
The letter reads: “I am my mother’s son. And I am the mother of our son. Together we bring you Archewell.”
“We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, both from our mothers and from strangers.
“In the face of fear, struggle and pain, it can be easy to lose sight of this. Together, we can choose courage, healing, and connection. Together, we can choose to put compassion into action.
“We invite you to join us. As we work to build a better world. One act of compassion at a time.”
Archewell is described in the “About” page of the website as “an impact-driven non-profit organization created by Duke and Duchess of Sussex“.
He continues: “Our primary purpose is to uplift and unite communities, local and global, online and offline, one act of compassion at a time.”
It lists partnerships with the Stanford University Altrusim and Compassion Research Center, the Center for Human Technology, the Loveland Foundation, the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Research, and the Central World Kitchen.
The couple withdrew as members of the greater royalty in March 2020 and have since moved to the US.
Meanwhile, they have signed massive deals, believed to be worth more than £ 100 million, with Netflix and Spotify.
The couple’s first Spotify podcast launched on Tuesday, featuring their 19 month old Archie wishing listeners a Happy New Year.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “Founded earlier this year by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell uplifts communities through non-profit partnerships and creative activations.
“It’s a place where compassion matters, communities come together, and storytelling is the engine.
“The website has been updated to reflect the work that Archewell has done throughout 2020 and to create a place for people and communities around the world to share their stories.”
