Dartmoor Highway Closed Because ‘Exceptionally Poor Parking’ Blocks Doctor With Covid Vaccines

Police closed a main road through Dartmoor and accompanied a doctor with Covid-19 vaccinations to a nursing home after poor parking blocked their way.

Chaos has been developing in the National Park throughout the day due to a combination of persistent traffic, icy conditions, and snowfall.

That has led to a series of accidents and blocked roads, despite repeated pleas by police for people to avoid the area.

Videos appeared online showing roads filled with parked vehicles on either side and traffic struggling to advance.

Some vehicles have been trapped due to difficult conditions.

The police have now decided to act, closing the B3212 in Dousland ‘temporarily’ to allow traffic to clear.

Officers also revealed they had to help a doctor with coronavirus shots negotiate heavy traffic to administer doses at a nursing home in Princetown.

“Police had to escort a doctor due to heavy traffic to assist a nursing home in Princetown with COVID-19 vaccinations for the residents of the nursing home,” the Tavistock neighborhood police team said.

“More than 50 vehicles stopped due to cars parked on both sides of the roadside.”

Regarding the road closure, Devon and Cornwall Police road surveillance equipment He said: “Due to the exceptionally poor parking of hundreds of motorists on the B3212 in Dousland, we have temporarily closed the road. This is to allow traffic to clear.

“Apologies for the inconvenience caused, we cannot allow traffic to go to the wasteland to avoid congestion.”



Heavy traffic has left Dartmoor stuck

Police have been controlling traffic and advising people to stay out of the area for much of the day.

Earlier today, the police blocked the B3212 between Yelverton and Princetown this morning because it was deemed too dangerous.

That prompted an initial warning from police.

“Today there is ice on the roads, especially between Princetown and Yelverton,” he said.

“Please stay out of the area and don’t be tempted to take a chance. Local units are dealing with other RTCs at this time due to weather conditions.”

Exeter-based forecaster Met Office predicts there will be more snowfall for the rest of the day.

This includes areas like Princetown on Dartmoor, and there are sleet forecasts and freezing temperatures in both counties for parts of the day.
