Police are warning drivers to avoid Dartmoor due to icy weather conditions

Motorists are cautioned to avoid roads that cross part of Dartmoor due to dangerous driving conditions.

Ice and snow in the area have caused a number of accidents in Devon and Cornwall.

The A30 and A38 have already been closed due to incidents, while the B3212 between Yelverton and Princetown was also blocked by the police this morning because it was deemed too dangerous.

Snow has already fallen on Dartmoor and a yellow Met Office weather advisory for ice remains in place.

“The roads are icy today, especially between Princetown and Yelverton,” Tavistock Police tweeted.

“Please stay out of the area and don’t be tempted to take a chance. Local units are dealing with other RTCs at this time due to weather conditions.”

Elsewhere, a person was taken to hospital after multiple accidents in dangerous conditions on the A38 in Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall police say there were three crashes near Dobwalls, while it was snowing in Devon and Cornwall, forcing the A30 to close between Bodmin and Launceston.

And fire crews from Looe, Bodmin and Polruan attended an accident in the Connon Bridge area of ​​Cornwall.

Also, the A39 near Shirwell is reported to be blocked after a car hit a wall.
