Tony Mowbray revealed there was an angry Rovers locker room after the late loss at Huddersfield Town in which the coach said his players gave away ‘pathetic’ goals.
Central defender Naby Sarr scored two goals, including a goal in the 90th minute, when the Rovers lost for the third straight away game and withdrew from the top half of the championship.
They finish 2020 with just one win in their last seven matches, but they seemed to have taken a point after Sam Gallagher’s goal with four minutes remaining as he came off the bench.
“People weren’t doing their jobs, people were given jobs and they just didn’t do it,” Mowbray said of a ninth loss this season.
“To get back in the game, I thought we deserved it, but losing it is a huge disappointment for everyone.
“The locker room is a pretty angry place.
“People didn’t do their job, it’s a pathetic goal to really concede, but we have to take it on the chin, it’s done.
“The players are angry. I have questioned the soft belly. You can’t keep losing tight matches. If you want to have ambition you have to win games, don’t accept defeat.
“Sometimes you have to play angry, I played angry.
“Travis brings that, he was kicking his grandmother to win a five a side, kicking everyone in practice and you can feel him saying ‘I’m going straight back to the team.
“We lack a bit of determination not to lose games.
“That’s not to put too much pressure on Trav, he comes back and all of a sudden we turn the corner and start winning games, but I think we kind of miss that nastiness that it takes to be a winning team.”
Sarr headed a left corner kick eight minutes after the restart, coming up with a winner after Rovers didn’t deal with another set piece later.
And Mowbray added: “You have to track down your runner and clear that up.
“Both goals, one in a set piece when we have everyone back, the others in a second phase of a play at three meters with everyone back.
“We created a lot of chances, we threatened the goal but they didn’t enter at the moment.
“We are all frustrated and disappointed.
“We saw these two away games as a real opportunity to score six points.
“It was a good game, a tight game, they are a good team and they have won five on the rebound at home, they have a pattern of play, but it was a game that we should not have lost.”
