Saka set up Lacazette’s decisive goal in the 66th minute to move Arsenal out of the relegation zone to nine points and further ease mounting pressure on head coach Arteta.

When asked if the injury was serious, Arteta replied: “Hopefully not.

“He was limping, but I think he took a big challenge there, but I hope he’s okay.”

On Saka’s progress as a whole, Arteta added: “I would like everyone to be cautious and let it be and let it develop.

“I think he is having the correct progression. I think he has the right people around him at home in his entourage. And then you have the right teammates to support you all the time, give you confidence, keep your feet on the court, but also to give you support and confidence.

“Hopefully we can be the right coaches around him, be the right club to see the player he can be in the future.”

Lacazette, who scored just 21 seconds after entering Amex Stadium, praised Saka for his growing influence at Arsenal.

The Frenchman said: “I am very happy. When you come off the bench you have to help the team and today with the first touch I was able to score, so it’s good for me and good for the team.

“(Saka) is very good and improves every game. Show its quality. They [young Arsenal players] make me feel old, they are young and fresh, but they are so nice to work with.

“Of course we want to go back to the top (of the table) to know that we have to win consecutive games.

“The victory over Chelsea gave us confidence and now we just want to win every game and come back to the top.”
