Tottenham coach José Mourinho has revealed that Gareth Bale will miss the next “weeks” with a calf injury.

Bale missed Spurs’ Premier League draw against Wolves on Sunday after he was withdrawn at halftime in the Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Stoke last week, a game in which he scored in head to put your team in front.

Mourinho revealed after the game against Stoke that the Wales international was unable to return for the second half due to a calf problem, and the Spurs manager has now said the forward is likely to miss the next few weeks.

When asked if Bale would be fit to face Fulham on Wednesday, Mourinho said: “No, I don’t expect Gareth to be fit. I wouldn’t say it’s a serious injury, but I would say a few weeks.”

Tottenham are winless in four Premier League games and host a Fulham who have lost just one of their previous six.

Scott Parker’s team have tied all four of their previous league games, conceding just two goals, and Mourinho believes they have discovered a new style of play in recent weeks.

“Fulham now play differently, they forgot some of the principles they believed in,” he said.

“They have new principles of the game and they are getting very positive results. It is going to be difficult.”

When will Bale shoot for the Spurs?

Gareth Bale has made just one Premier League start with Tottenham this season and recorded just 161 minutes on the field.

Had he still been at Real Madrid, those figures would have prompted family criticism of Bernabéu coach Zinedine Zidane: “Why don’t you play it ?! – and sparked speculation about how unhappy the Wales striker must be to be left out.

Three months after his return to Tottenham, that is not the case. But Spurs fans will soon feel entitled to wonder when they will see the most of their returning hero, who the club, let’s not forget, is paying a considerable amount of money.

His 45-minute cameo against Leicester was his last outing in the league, but, after missing the previous two games due to illness, Bale deviated from the rhythm and struggled to get into the game and turn things around for the Spurs.

Recovering from a knee problem has been at the heart of the problem, and the Spurs signed the attacker knowing they would have to be patient. But is your return to form and fitness now taking longer than expected?
