Ian Wright delivered a scathing verdict on Chelsea duo Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante, after he was left “baffled” by their mistakes in setting up Aston Villa’s goal in Monday’s 1-1 draw.
Chelsea led at halftime thanks to a header from Olivier Giroud, but their defense took off early in the second half when Anwar El Ghazi entered the back post unmarked.
Christensen got off to an unusual start to the Premier League clash and got caught in a mess with Jack Grealish before El Ghazi’s draw.
Wright noticed how Grealish stood up while Christensen stayed down and pointed out Kante’s mistake as he analyzed Villa’s goal.
“I’m very disappointed in Christensen because we see Jack Grealish come here and it’s not a hit that will force him to leave the game,” Wright said. Premier League Productions .
“I don’t want to see my middle half lying on the ground like that when you know nothing is wrong with you. You can see all the trouble it has caused.

“Kante should have come back faster, maybe [Cesar] Azpilicueta could have been a bit more attentive but he’s worried about Jack Grealish and they score the goal in the end.
“They deserve the goal but my problem with this is him [Christensen] he gets up and keeps playing, so I think if Grealish can get up and keep playing, he should keep playing too.
“Then you look at Grealish, he occupies Azpilicueta, then it is Kante, we are talking about one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, and his awareness of where El Ghazi was and the awareness that the other half was not.” There it puzzled me that he did not recognize that situation. “
The 1-1 draw leaves Chelsea sixth in the Premier League, trailing Aston Villa on goal difference, while the Midlands club also have two games in hand over the Blues.
