Tim Sherwood has criticized Andreas Christensen for not helping his team again as Aston Villa scored the tie to draw 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.
Christensen was drafted as a central defender alongside Antonio Rudiger with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma resting amid the hectic match schedule.
Frank Lampard made four more changes to his side and they couldn’t beat an impressive Villa.
Giroud’s goal just after the half hour was disallowed by Anwar El Ghazi’s draw at the start of the second period to earn a point from Dean Smith’s team.
In preparation for Villa’s goal, Christensen fell after a challenge with Jack Grealish in the middle of the park, but referee Stuart Attwell saluted the game.
Christensen stayed on the ground as Villa continued to attack and just seconds later, a Matty Cash cross found El Ghazi unmarked in the area for the winger to land properly.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood was shocked by the Chelsea defender’s decision not to return to his position and regretted that he was lying on the ground “like a baby”.
“ He has tried to mix things up in the back without Silva, without Zouma today and it has cost him.
Because, Christiansen, that’s not enough.
‘He would say to Christiansen after the game:’ Why were you lying on the ground? Why didn’t you get up and prevent that goal from being scored? You weren’t hurt, what are you lying there trying to pretend an injury comes out? You cost us the game today. You cost us three points. ‘
‘Yes, Villa went ahead and they deservedly got their point.
“But that’s crucial, that’s not good enough, you’re a big, strong center back, don’t lie on the floor like a baby, get up and move on with your team. Is not sufficient.’
