Grag Taylor insists that Celtic must deal with Dundee United if they want to go to Ibrox with all their weapons.

The Hoops ace understands that Old Firm fever is building in the west of Scotland as the Glasgow giants prepare to meet in Govan on Saturday.

But Taylor cautioned that the Celts cannot afford to be distracted by the derby showdown, as Dundee United on Wednesday is crucial to their 10-in-a-row hopes.

Neil Lennon’s men have won three league games on the rebound after the victory at Hamilton, but still have a whopping 16-point deficit to regain, despite three games in hand with the high-flying Gers.

There is no margin or error for the Celts and Taylor and company have to watch out for Tannadice’s men for a chance to take advantage of a large part of the Rangers’ lead this weekend.

When asked if there was no room for slippage in the derby, Taylor said: “That’s exactly it.

“I can assure you that all of our focus and the focus of the management team will be on Wednesday night and on getting all three points.

“It took a late winner from Albian Ajeti in Tannadice early in the season.

“Hopefully we don’t leave it so late on Wednesday night, but if it takes so long and we get all three points, that’s all that matters.

“Our focus is on ourselves, and narrowing the gap.

“Of course there is a considerable advantage.

“But that’s what is important to focus on on Wednesday.

“This is the next opportunity to score three more points and that is what we will try to do.

“It is important to try another performance and if we can continue to do so, we will see where it takes us.

“I think it has been important to take advantage of the latest results. They have been positive. “

Hoops boss Lennon was underpriced at the beginning of the month, but rebounding results and the Scottish Cup victory have eased some of the hysteria surrounding the club.

The Parkhead manager insisted over the weekend that his team looked back at their old self in Hamilton and Taylor, who has been undefeated since being restored to the starting lineup lately, was delighted to reward the coach with a powerful display as Odsonne Edouard. Leigh Griffiths and David Turnbull secured the points.

He said: “I think he (Lennon) was satisfied with the overall performance.

“At half time I thought it was a good performance, we just didn’t make the breakthrough. We had great opportunities.

“We took them in the second half. And with a clean sheet there is momentum for Wednesday. ”
