An organized meeting of drivers in Wirral tonight led to the police establishing a 48-hour dispersal zone.
It follows about 80 cars, believed to be from outside the Merseyside area, who gather at The Croft shopping park in Bromborough.
After the commercial park was closed to them, the group moved to other nearby locations.
The dispersal zone went into effect at 7pm tonight (Sunday, December 27) and will be in effect until 7pm on Tuesday, December 29.
Some of those attending tonight’s meeting are believed to have traveled from areas that are under a higher level of Covid restrictions than those found in Merseyside, which is at Level 2.
The area covered by the dispersal zone includes the area bordered and including by New Chester Road and River Mersey, and from Dock Road South to Ferry Road, including Eastham.
Chief Inspector Chris Ruane said: “We are well aware of the significant impact antisocial behavior can have on individuals and communities, and we will focus on individuals we suspect of being involved in this type of behavior in the area.
“The drivers of these vehicles are believed to come from areas outside of Merseyside (which may be at different levels and subject to additional restrictions) to meet and we received a number of calls from local people who were concerned.
“Along with the dispersion zone, we will also use any legislation available in relation to Covid for those traveling to the area from outside the region.

“If people take non-essential trips that clearly violate current legislation, we will take the necessary action.”
A dispersal zone gives police officers and PCSOs powers to direct individuals they suspect of causing or may cause crime, nuisance, or antisocial behavior to members of the public, to leave the designated area for up to 48 hours.
If they return to that area, they face arrest.
Anyone in the area with information on this type of antisocial behavior should contact 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111. You can also follow @WirralPolice on Twitter and Facebook for updates and advice.
