Oxford Vaccine: Dr. Hilary Talks About Puncture Immunity
The UK has already rolled out Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine to the NHS and has already administered it to more than 600,000 people in the country. But now hopes for normality have risen as regulators are poised to approve the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine.
Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi said: “The heroic efforts of the Oxford University team have paid off, and their homegrown vaccine has proven effective in both the old and the young.
“Since the first day of the pandemic, people across the country have been working around the clock to find a safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine.
“We have seen the best of the British at every stage, from our world’s leading scientists who work around the clock to conduct vital research, to the builders and engineers who build new facilities.
“Manufacturers are increasing their capacities and hundreds of thousands of people in every corner of the UK are taking part in clinical trials; the development, research and preparation of a vaccine has involved us all.

“It has been and continues to be a truly UK-wide effort and it shows what a fantastic nation we are.”
The first injections are believed to be launched a week after the new drug is approved.
Last week Oxford University Senior Researcher Professor Sarah Gilbert said: “You have to give regulators time, but I really hope the time is not too far off.”
The government has already ordered 100 million doses of the vaccine to be manufactured in Oxford and Newcastle.

A member of the government said: “A vaccine is the most valuable product we have.
“It will open up the economy.”
Earlier this month, the UK became the first country in the world to implement the vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech.
“The government today released figures showing that the number of people who have received the vaccine between 8 December and 20 December in the UK is 616,933,” the Department of Health and Welfare said in a statement.

Britain has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine from Pfizer and Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he expects to receive millions of doses by the end of the year.
Currently, vaccines have been administered to nursing home residents, those over 80 years of age, and health and social care personnel through more than 500 vaccination centers.
This news comes after the public urged the government to end current coronavirus restrictions before the entire population is vaccinated, according to a recent survey.
The One Poll poll showed that 30 percent believe restrictions should end when everyone over 60 and people in vulnerable groups have had a chance to get vaccinated.

Medical Director Chris Whitty and Senior Scientific Advisor Sir Patrick Vallance have suggested that the restrictions should remain in place for most of next year until the entire population has had a chance to receive the vaccine.
However, only 32 percent of the 1,013 people surveyed in the week before Christmas support this position, which some deputies have already described as extreme.
Former Cabinet Minister Esther McVey, founder of the powerful blue-collar Conservative movement of more than 120 Conservative MPs, said the poll shows that the prime minister cannot continue to place restrictions on a country that does not want to.
She said: “As with all issues, the public is way ahead of the politicians.

“We cannot maintain these restrictions and lockdowns in perpetuity and the government must pay attention and ensure that a new strategy is developed as soon as possible that returns our freedoms and allows the economy to reopen.”
Days before Christmas, large areas of England, including London, were mired in Level 4 restrictions.
People in Level 4 regions are prohibited from mingling with homes inside and can only see one person from a different home outside.
Starting today, Sussex, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, Hampshire and parts of Essex and Surrey will be subject to Level 4 restrictions.
