A man was arrested after an ambulance allegedly arrived and paramedics were attacked with a knife in Wiltshire on Christmas Day.

Emergency services were called to Morse Street in Swindon at 4.30 pm after paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service, who were responding to a medical incident on a property, “feared” for their own safety and sought refuge in your ambulance.

However, it is said that they later took the ambulance.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fighting, criminal mischief and drunk driving and remains in custody at the Gablecross Police Station, according to a statement from Wiltshire Police.

Inspector Steve Love added: “It is a sad reality that while taking calls to protect the public, emergency services personnel find themselves in situations where they fear for their own safety on a daily basis and Christmas Day is not a exception, sadly.

“No one should feel in danger when trying to do their job, especially when that job involves protecting our communities.

“We will do everything we can to protect emergency workers doing their jobs and urge the public to respect our officers and members of the ambulance and fire service and help us help you.”
