COVID-19: Millions More Under Tighter Coronavirus Restrictions Starting Today | UK News

[ad_1]

Millions more people across the UK have been subjected to stricter coronavirus restrictions as of today.

Another six million in England have been placed at Tier 4, while Scotland and Northern Ireland have also imposed tougher measures on their citizens on Boxing Day.

Level 4 restrictions, effectively a regional lockdown, now also affect the following locations in England:

  • Sussex
  • Oxfordshire
  • Suffolk
  • Norfolk
  • Cambridgeshire
  • Parts of Essex are currently not on Level 4
  • Waverley in Surrey
  • Hampshire (other than New Forest)

These locations will also move to Level 3:

  • Bristol board
  • Gloucestershire
  • Somersault
  • Swindon
  • Isle of Wight
  • The new forest
  • Northamptonshire
  • Cheshire
  • Warrington

Meanwhile Cornwall and Herefordshire are moving to Level 2.

Under the strictest Level 4 restrictions in England, people are told to stay home and non-essential shops, bars and restaurants are closed.

People cannot meet with other households except in a support bubble or in an outdoor public space with another person.

Several areas were already placed on Level 4 before Christmas, including London and parts of the southeast and east.

North Ireland six week lockdown also starts today.

All non-essential stores will be closed and the hospitality will only be open for takeout services.

The first week will be the strictest, when all sporting activities will be prohibited and the essential shops must close at 8pm.

In a similar move to England’s Tier 4 restrictions, Wales will revert to Tier 4 measures after easing for Christmas Day.

The stricter restrictions were originally scheduled for December 28, but were pushed forward by Prime Minister Mark Drakeford last week.

This stricter level of restrictions means that nonessential shops, gyms, and hair salons must close and bars and restaurants can only open to go.

Millions More Enter Level 4 Since Boxing Day

People are told to “stay home” and travel only for “essential reasons.”

During the Level Four lockdown, people cannot mingle with anyone they do not live with except those with whom they are in an exclusive support bubble.

Mainland Scotland is also entering the strictest level of restrictions today for at least three weeks.

The measures are very similar to those imposed by England and Wales, with the closure of nonessential retail and hospitality.

People will not be allowed to meet in each other’s homes, but six adults from two separate homes may meet in a public place. Children under 12 years old do not count towards the total.
