Manchester United might remember midfielder duo Fred and Scott McTominay for their visit to Leicester City on December 26.
United travel to King Power Stadium looking to continue their recent excellent form, which continued on Wednesday night with a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory in Everton.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made nine changes to the game, adding the likes of Paul Pogba, Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek to his team. But all three could return to the Leicester bench, depending on McTominay’s physical form.
The Scotsman, who scored a quick double at the start of United’s 6-2 win over Leeds a week ago, also took a hit against Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were both ruled out of the game against Everton, but Solskjaer hinted that they would not be out for long.
The Norwegian also warned his United players to be wary of the threat posed by Leicester, who are flying high this season, one point ahead of United in the league. Solskjaer’s men can move to second place with a win.
“Well it’s game by game, we have to think like that now,” he said of the hectic schedule at the moment.
“But Leicester … we have had some good matches against Leicester, very tight matches. They are a very good team with a very good coach and I have enjoyed watching them with Brendan [Rodgers].
“It was a great test for us to go there in their stadium for the last league game last season in the summer. We got through it with great success. I felt like we really controlled the game. I know it’s not going to be like that. The same now. because it’s a different time of the season. They have some threats that you have to look for and we’ll just sit back and think about who’s fit and who’s not. “
In terms of the other players who can return to the side, Solskjaer will almost certainly call David de Gea in goal and reinstall fit forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to the top three.
Planned formation: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.
