Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sent a festive message to fans and promised: “Our time to celebrate together will come, I can promise you this.”

The Reds coach reflected on the ups and downs of 2020 in an open letter on Christmas Day to fans.

Liverpool finally ended a 30-year wait for the title, as they were crowned Premier League champions in the summer.

But it has also been a difficult and tragic year for many around the world in the ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Reflecting on his team winning the league, Klopp said: “Of course, when we look back at 2020, now and for years to come, anyone who is with us will always remember these words: Liverpool Football Club, champions of England. That sounds great, no?

“As it always is in life, sometimes it’s funny how things come together and for us in our bubble, we were able to be together the night we became champions. I think you’ve already seen the pictures … and some of the dances!

“But it was important to me that we could share this special moment together. The boys deserved it.

“I will never forget the time we spent together but apart if you want during the lockdown. Our WhatsApp group was on fire, let me put it that way! But it showed me the togetherness and team spirit that exists within this group of players.

“I didn’t need someone to tell me that, I already knew that, but what I love about this, as I’ve always said, is that all the different nationalities, cultures, beliefs and backgrounds come together and work towards one goal as colleagues. And as friends. It really is an amazing thing when you think about it and like I said it shows how much better we are when we are together as human beings.

“So sharing this moment together, when we became champions, a moment that we will all remember and savor for the rest of our lives, it was huge. It was exciting, as I’m sure you saw on TV afterwards. Sir Kenny Dalglish delivered… wow!

“Yeah, it wasn’t the way we all lay in bed dreaming about it, a crowded Anfield celebrating together, but like I said at the time, we had to celebrate it in the right way for now.”

Klopp also expressed his thoughts on the challenges this year has presented for everyone, and thanked those who have been on the front lines.

He said in the letter posted on Liverpool’s website: “We are living in extraordinary times and each and every one of us has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It has changed every aspect of our lives, both personally and professionally.”

“Who would have thought a year ago that our year would end this way, that we would be in ‘confinements’, that we could not travel or, most important of all, see our loved ones? It has really taught me how precious the life, how quickly things can be removed, so that you appreciate all you can.

“But it has also taught me what good people can do when they come together and support each other.

“I would like to pay a heartfelt tribute to the front-line workers around the world, the doctors, the nurses, the hospital staff, the emergency services, for all that they have done in the last nine months. Wow, what? What can I say? I don’t have the words to even begin to describe to you how much I respect and admire everything you are doing for people these days.

“On behalf of myself, my team and my club, thank you. You are true heroes to all of us. I will be thinking of you today.”

And he ended with an anxious look at what will hopefully be a happier new year.

Klopp said: “I’m a person who always tries to be positive, so for me there is a lot to look forward to in 2021. Most importantly, advances in medicine and science mean that hopefully we will begin to overcome this pandemic. and we’ll get something back. ” ‘normal’ again.

“But in a football sense, we hope to have a complete Anfield once again sometime this new year. Can you begin to imagine what that will be like? It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it as I write these words! “

He added: “Finally, I would like to say, if this year has taught us one thing, today it is not about what is under your Christmas tree, but about who is standing around it.

“We have seen how life can change so quickly, so today we should all appreciate every moment, every second that we spend with our loved ones.

“I hope our team has helped put a smile on your face during a difficult year for everyone and I am looking forward to seeing you again soon.”
