A dejected nan was left in tears when an Aldi store worker offered to help pay for her Christmas shopping.

Carole Parker, 63, was visibly upset when she walked into the Aldi store on Christmas Eve in Wirral, Merseyside.

The grandmother had lost £ 500 from her Christmas getaway to Wales, which was canceled due to Covid restrictions, Liverpool Echo reports.

She and her husband Stephen had booked a weeklong holiday for Carole’s birthday in a static caravan in North Wales.

But two hours after his arrival on December 19, it was announced that Wales would go into lockdown starting at midnight due to the increase in Covid cases, instead of on December 28 as originally planned.

Carole Parker, 63, had recently returned home from a canceled holiday in Wales due to coronavirus restrictions.

It meant the couple had to turn around and go straight to their home in Woodchurch, near Birkenhead, Merseyside.

To make matters worse, the caravan owner refused to refund the £ 500 he had already paid.

When Carole went shopping at her local Aldi a few days later, she broke down in tears and the staff comforted her.

The shopper, who has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, was stunned when the worker offered to pay for her purchases to cheer her up.

Carole reached the checkout and discovered that one of the workers had paid for part of her purchases at Aldi in Wirral, Merseyside.

She said: “When I walked into Aldi tonight to get pieces, I burst into tears because I was so upset.

“One of the workers who was filling the shelves could see that I was upset and asked if I was okay. I told him what happened.

“When I got to the checkout, they told me that the lady who works there had paid for part of my purchases.

“It wasn’t because I didn’t have money and I didn’t ask her for it. She just wanted to cheer me up.

“I was stunned. What a lovely person he was and a credit to his family for doing something like this to help me.”

At first, Carole hoped she could get some or all of the money back.

But later he discovered that there was a clause in the agreement that meant this was not possible.

She added: “My husband and I have had a difficult year so we decided to leave for my birthday on December 19 and for Christmas.

“Two hours after we arrived, there was a lockdown in Wales, so we all had to leave.

“The owner said that we would not get any refund of the £ 500 because he had lost business because people had not been able to leave.”
