A nan was left in tears after a kind-hearted Aldi worker helped her pay for her Christmas shopping after her vacation was canceled.
Carole Parker was visibly upset when she visited the Aldi store in Moreton, Wirral, this Christmas Eve because a planned break after a “rough year” turned sour.
She and her husband Stephen had booked a weeklong holiday for Carole’s birthday and the Christmas holidays in a static caravan in North Wales.
But just two hours after they arrived at the site last Saturday (December 19), it was announced that Wales would be closed from midnight due to rising Covid-19 levels, rather than December 28 as planned originally.
It meant Carole and Stephen had to turn around and head straight home again to Woodchurch, near Birkenhead.
But what was even worse was the static caravan owner’s refusal to refund the £ 500 cost of the caravan they had booked for the week.
Carole, 63, said: “My husband and I have had a difficult year, so we decided to leave for my birthday on December 19 and for Christmas.
“Two hours after we arrived, there was a lockdown in Wales, so we all had to leave.
“The owner said that we would not get any refund of the £ 500 because he had lost business because people had not been able to leave.”
At first, Carole, who has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, was hoping that she could get some or all of the money back.
But then he discovered that there was a clause in the agreement that meant that this was not possible.
She said: “When I walked into Aldi tonight to get pieces, I burst into tears because I was so upset.
“One of the workers who was filling the shelves could see that I was upset and asked if I was okay. I told him what happened.
“When I got to the checkout, they told me that the lady who works there had paid for part of my purchases.

“It wasn’t because I didn’t have money and I didn’t ask her for it. She just wanted to cheer me up.
“I was stunned. What a lovely person he was and a credit to his family for doing something like this to help me.”
