A yellow weather advisory has started across the Southwest, as the Met Office warns that high winds and rain are expected during Boxing Day weekend.
The Met Office reports that “very windy weather is expected in parts of England, Wales and the far south of Scotland, causing disruptions to transport and public services.”
People have been told to expect that road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer travel times and possible cancellations.
Some roads and bridges may be forced to close and power outages may occur, which in turn could affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.
For those closer to shore, injury and death danger could result from large waves and beach material thrown onto ocean fronts, coastal roads, and properties.
The Met Office also added that some damage could affect buildings, such as roof tiles. This is expected to hit the Southwest from Boxing Day and last through the weekend.
The warning is in effect from 3 pm on Saturday to noon on Sunday.
Today, Wednesday 23 December, there is a yellow rain warning in the south of England, which lasts until tomorrow, Christmas Eve.
Heavy rains can cause flooding in some places and disruption of travel.
The Met Office has said that there is a slim chance that homes and businesses will flood, causing damage to some buildings.
There is a small chance that flowing waters or deep flooding will create dangerous conditions. When a flood occurs, there is a small possibility of delays or cancellations of train and bus services.
Spraying and flooding can lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, and there is a small chance that some communities will be cut off by flooded roads.
