Scotland’s Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon apologized after she was photographed breaking coronavirus rules by removing her mask at a funeral.
A photograph, published by the Scottish Sun, shows Ms Sturgeon chatting with three women in a bar while standing at a distance but without a mask.
It is mandatory for clients and staff to cover their faces when entering, leaving and moving around hospitality venues according to Scottish regulations.
Those who violate the facial coverage rules can be fined up to £ 60.
Sturgeon was at the Stable Bar and Restaurant after attending the funeral of a Scottish government official, the Scottish Sun reported.
Sturgeon said: “Last Friday, while attending a funeral, I took off my mask briefly. It was a stupid mistake and I am so sorry.
“I talk about the importance of masks every day, so I’m not going to offer any excuses.
“I was wrong, I’m kicking myself and I’m sorry.”
A Scottish Conservative spokesman said: “The Prime Minister should know better.
“By forgetting the rules and not setting an appropriate example, you are undermining essential public health messages.
“It is a mistake that an ordinary member of the public would not get away with it. There cannot be one rule for Nicola Sturgeon and another for everyone else.”

Scotland’s Attorney General Humza Yousaf tweeted: “FM has approached the pandemic by being frank from the start.
“She has apologized for an accidental lapse (which I suspect most of us have had one for the past 9 months).
“I’ve known her for 15 years and it’s her harshest criticism. I’m sure most people will understand, accept apologies and move on.”
