Liverpool’s 7-0 win at Crystal Palace was their biggest away win in Premier League history.
The champions ended their uneven road form with an impressive performance at Selhurst Park.
Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino helped each other make a double along with goals from Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and captain Jordan Henderson.
But you knew all that, of course.
What you may have missed, however, was a series of intriguing subplots set in South London.
Jones shows appreciation
The reaction of Curtis Jones and Jurgen Klopp told the story.
Preparing to enter as a substitute in the second half, the teenage midfielder waited on the sidelines with his coach when Firmino beat Vicente Guaita to put the visitors 5-0.
It was a sublime ending that showed the world that Firmino had regained his confidence and Jones’ response on the bench suggested that he was more than approved.
Klopp too, as his smile broadened more than Liverpool’s lead.
The Reds boss could only stand and admire the goal before punching Jones, whose facial expression said it all.
Oxlade-Chamberlain finally arrives
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opening minutes of the season couldn’t have come under more ideal circumstances.
With the result assured, introducing a player who has not played all season for a few minutes later would have been the perfect setting for Klopp.
And as goals rained down in South London, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s entry onto the field almost went unnoticed.
The former Arsenal player was able to take a big step forward in his recovery with 15 minutes left in the second half.
Oxlade-Chamberlain even got an assist for the wonderful second from Mohamed Salah.
A kind reminder for anyone who has forgotten what he brought to this team.
A big day in the 27-year-old’s season, the challenge now is to stay fit and give Klopp an extra piece to his midfield puzzle.
Kung fu fight
A celebratory kung fu kick is nothing new for Roberto Firmino.
Throughout his five years on Merseyside, the flamboyant Brazilian has executed the kick several times, usually followed by Sadio Mane, whose love of copying his teammate is famous.
Maybe Andy Robertson hasn’t been paying attention?
After putting the finishing touches on Robertson’s clever delivery, Firmino’s only way to score Liverpool’s third was by kicking the air with joy.
Robertson, however, was clearly not expecting it and had to endure his run towards Firmino when the kick reached the corner of the field.
