Amazon has warned Northern Ireland customers that they could face delays and unavailability of some products when the Irish Sea border begins operating.
Commercial goods entering NI from the UK will require a customs declaration starting in January.
Amazon said that due to additional requirements from UK customs authorities, some deliveries to NI “may take a little longer than usual.”
He said that this could happen from January 1, 2021,
The government is working with delivery companies to find a way to minimize the impact of these changes.

UK and EU announce Irish Sea border deal
It has already announced a series of measures to facilitate the introduction of the new maritime border.
For example, a Trader Support Service is helping businesses with customs declarations and food retailers will have a three-month “grace period” before new certification requirements are introduced.
However, it is understood that the problem of the parcels has been a particularly delicate problem.
Since the summer, the government has said it would provide advice on this “no-load trade,” but so far nothing has emerged.
In a note on Amazon’s website it also says: “Due to additional requirements some items may not be available for delivery to the selected delivery address in Northern Ireland.”
However, it says the returns policies will not change, stating: “We continue to accept eligible returns for products sold or fulfilled by Amazon from customers in Northern Ireland after Brexit.”
It also tells clients that it will update its advice when “the EU and UK governments issue more guidance regarding Brexit.”
Brexit – Basics
- Brexit happened, but the rules didn’t change immediately: The UK left the European Union on January 31, 2020, but the leaders needed time to negotiate a lifetime deal afterwards – they had 11 months.
- The conversations are happening: The UK and the EU have until December 31, 2020 to agree on a trade deal and other things, like fishing rights.
- If there is no deal: Border controls and taxes will be introduced for goods traveling between the UK and the EU. But agree or disagree, we will still see changes.
