Premier League clubs will soon be able to name nine substitutes on the bench, but they will only be allowed to make three changes per game instead of five.
Recently, there has been a debate about how many subscribers per game managers should allow themselves amid a hectic match schedule this season.
The vast majority of the major European leagues are allowing five changes, the Premier League being the only major one that returns to the traditional three from previous seasons.
Players like Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola have been calling for a change to avoid potential injury problems.

But in a final vote on the rules at the 20 club meeting, the verdict was a deadlock of 10 votes in favor and 10 votes against allowing five substitutes, which falls well below the majority division. 14-6 needed to change a rule.
However, the separate vote to extend the number of alternates that can be named on the bench from seven to nine did pass.
The decision is unlikely to go well for Klopp and Guardiola, who as recently as last month were enraged by the current rules.
“Every team has to understand why it’s so useful. It’s not an advantage, it’s a necessity. 100 percent,” Klopp said.
“In all other countries it happens and here we have a little more fun from the competition by having only three substitutes. That’s really incredible, so we have to talk again.”
And Guardiola added: “In the whole world there are five substitutions, but here we believe that we are more special people,
“We don’t protect the players, and that’s why it’s a disaster. On this schedule, especially. I’ll demand, if people allow it, we have to go back to five substitutions. If not, it’s difficult to sustain it.”
Despite his passion for the subject, Klopp did not make a single substitute in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Wednesday, while Guardiola has only made three in total in City’s last two games.
The Premier League also announced that it would apply to the game’s legislative body, the Board of the International Football Association, to participate in a substitute concussion trial.
The protocol in which the Premier League has expressed interest allows each team to make up to two additional permanent substitutions in the event of a concussion, and the opposition can make the same number of additional changes.
He could enter the competition next month, the league said. The league’s medical task force will meet Friday to continue considering protocols.
