The quarantine period for those arriving in the UK from the vast majority of destinations, as well as for those who have been in contact with someone with a positive case of coronavirus, has been officially reduced from two weeks to 10 days.
The new rules went into effect in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday, December 14, after Wales unilaterally reduced its self-isolation requirements from 14 days to 10.
The development comes as Sadiq Khan warned of a “deeply worrying” increase in coronavirus cases in London.
The mayor of London said the capital would need an immediate increase in test provisions to control the spread.
He warned that moving capital from Tier 2 to Tier 3 would have a “catastrophic” economic impact on businesses and “would put hundreds of thousands of livelihoods at stake.”
The government is expected to review all levels in England on Wednesday, December 16.
In the coming days, family doctor-run vaccination clinics are scheduled to begin across England, with GP consultations in over 100 locations receiving delivery of the Pfizer / BioNTech approved vaccine, allowing some offer vaccinations within hours.

Boris Johnson has been urged not to ease coronavirus restrictions in any area of England ahead of a Wednesday review of the tiered measures.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has urged Boris Johnson to immediately push for the provision of Covid-19 testing across the capital and close schools early amid a “deeply troubling” surge in cases.

Commerce Secretary Alok Sharma has said that members of the public will have to make a “personal decision” on whether to form a festive bubble and hug family members during Christmas.
Talking to ITV Good morning Great BritainSharma said: “If people feel like they would be safer if they didn’t, that’s up to them.”
“I know that on your show people have talked about ‘families will hug each other’, but I also know that there are people who have made the conscious decision that while their elderly parents may come over at Christmas, they will make sure they don’t hug them, ”he said.
Sharma added that he believes the UK’s approach to Christmas is “proportionate” and “balanced.”

Alok Sharma insists vaccine supply will not be affected by a no-deal Brexit
Commerce Secretary Alok Sharma has said the government remains confident that supplies of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine will not be disrupted in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
Speaking to the BBC, Sharma said: “We have made arrangements to ensure that vaccine distribution is not interrupted in any way.”

NHS Primary Care Director Urges Patience With Vaccine Launch
Dr Nikita Kanani, Director of Primary Care at NHS England, has urged the public to be patient while waiting for the coronavirus vaccines to be rolled out.
Talking with him Today program on Monday morning, Dr. Kanani said people should wait for their doctors to contact them instead of calling for consultations.
“You can imagine general offices are very busy, particularly on Monday mornings,” he said.
“There is a wide variety of things that general practitioners are already doing, so if we can ask people to wait a moment and wait to be contacted, that would be greatly appreciated.”

NHS workers celebrated at a new exhibition
Merseyside NHS workers are being celebrated in a new display of portraits that give an insight into what their lives have been like during the coronavirus pandemic.
American artist Aliza Nisenbaum said she wanted to “pay tribute” to key workers with the exhibition, which was commissioned by the Tate Liverpool gallery, according to PA Media.
The artist used photographs and Zoom calls to create two group portraits and 11 paintings of key workers, including nurses, doctors, a hospital doorman, Sage member Professor Calum Semple, and others.
The subjects were painted along with elements that gave them support or hope during the pandemic.
The exhibition will be on display at Tate Liverpool from Tuesday until June next year.

The public is urged to carefully consider actions during the Christmas period
