COVID-19 case rates are increasing in two-thirds of all local areas in England, according to the most recent data.
A week-to-week increase in coronavirus The rates were recorded in 208 of 315 local authority areas in the seven days to Dec. 9, figures from Public Health England showed.
This includes all London boroughs, 39 of the 45 local areas in the East of England and 58 of the 67 local areas in the South East of England.
Coronavirus rates have also risen in 19 of the 39 areas of North West England, where rates had previously been falling.
The figures were based on tests performed in laboratories and in the community at large, and the rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.
Data for the most recent four days (December 10-13) have been excluded because they are incomplete and do not reflect the actual number of cases.
Of the 315 local areas in England, only 105 have seen a drop in COVID-19 cases, while two areas have not changed.
Swale in Kent has the highest COVID rate in England, with 951 new cases registered in the seven days to December 9, which is equivalent to 633.7 cases per 100,000 people.
This is an increase of 579.7 in the seven days to December 2.
Another area in Kent, Medway, has the second highest rate, from 605.6 to 613.9, with 1,710 new cases.
Meanwhile, Basildon in Essex ranks third, where the rate has risen sharply from 372.9 to 613.8, with a total of 1,149 new cases.
