The players of Paris Saint Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir left the court in protest during their Champions League match over an alleged racist insult made by a match referee.
The Turkish club’s players protested after their Cameroonian assistant coach Pierre Webo was seen with a red card in the 16th minute of the match.
Video footage emerged that appeared to show Webo accusing a party official of using racist language.
The players from both teams left the pitch in the 23rd minute of their last Group H match in Paris and the match was suspended.
French champion PSG said on Twitter: “After the referee gives a red card to a member of the opposition staff, discussions between the players and staff of both teams continue with the referee.
“The Basaksehir players decide to go back to the dressing room, the Parisians follow them.”
Basaksehir posted a message on his Twitter account that read: “NO TO RACISM #Respect.”
A UEFA statement said: “Following an alleged incident involving the fourth official, the match was temporarily suspended.
“After consulting with both teams, it was agreed that the match would be restarted with a different fourth official.
“UEFA will fully investigate the matter and further communication will be made in due course.”
