Man dies in A5 collision in Tamworth

A man has died after a collision between a stationary Seat Ibiza and a white Transit van.

It happened on the A5 at Tamworth this morning.

A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staffordshire Police confirmed: “Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit are calling for witnesses after a fatal traffic collision on the A5 in Tamworth.

“Police were called at 8.55am to receive reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A5 westbound towards Tamworth.

“The collision involved a stationary Seat Ibiza and a white Transit van.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the Seat, a man in his 50s, died at the scene. A passenger in the Seat received minor injuries. The driver and the passenger of the van were not injured. Specialized officers are supporting the family of the man.

“The surrounding roads are closed and we ask drivers to avoid the area.

“Witnesses who have seen the vehicles prior to the collision or anyone with relevant dash cam footage is asked to message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter citing incident number 128 on December 8, call the 101 or, alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111 “.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8.54am on the A5 in Stonydelph, Tamworth to receive reports of a traffic collision.

“We dispatched two ambulances, three paramedic officers, an intensive care car with a BASICS emergency medic and a paramedic on board and Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill to the scene.”
