Mesut Ozil breaks the silence of Arsenal players on social media after Tottenham’s defeat

Mesut Ozil has sent a message to Arsenal supporters following the defeat in the North London Derby.

Just over a month ago, the Gunners had beaten Manchester United 1-0 in what was their first away win in a ‘top six’ team since 2015 and there was reason for optimism.

But after the victory at Old Trafford, Arsenal’s form has worsened.

Not only have they failed to win a single Premier League game since then, but they have found the back of the net once in the same period, highlighting their struggles in front of goal.

A surprise 3-0 home loss at the hands of Aston Villa before last month’s international break has set in motion a dismal streak of three defeats in four that has left Arsenal closer to the relegation zone than to the Champions League.

The latest loss was frustrating over the weekend, as the north London team were beaten twice on the counterattack by Tottenham Hotspur in the first half, allowing Son Heung-min and Harry Kane to benefit.

As a result, there was a silence around the Gunners team after that loss, but Ozil has become one of the first to speak and has a message for the fans.

“The feeling of having fans behind you … #grateful #bestfans #hardtimes,” he said tweeted.

Of course, Ozil was unable to affect proceedings at the North London Derby as he is ineligible for Premier League games at this time due to Mikel Arteta’s decision not to appoint him to the 25-man team of the Gunners.

And as each game goes by where Arsenal seems empty of creativity, the debate over the playmaker omission continues.

This was evident during the game against the Spurs, where Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp expressed contrasting views on Ozil while on the air.

“Ozil is not even at 25, but he is a player who can detect a pass,” Redknapp said.

“[Dani] Ceballos too. I understand the pros and cons of Ozil, but I think Arsenal fans would rather be in the position with him playing than not. “

However, Neville dismissed Redknapp’s suggestion that Ozil could improve things in front of goal for Arteta’s team, instead stating that he believes the 32-year-old is not motivated enough to perform at his best.

“I’m not so clear on that, in terms of bringing Ozil back, I have to say,” Neville replied.

“After watching him for three or four years here, I found him disinterested. He was talented, and he definitely had a pass in him, certainly in the last third, his passing weight was fantastic.”
