Liverpool vs Wolves lineups while Diogo Jota rested and Trent Alexander-Arnold decision was made

Ian Doyle – Diogo Jota on the bench

Jurgen Klopp faces something quite unusual for this season.

He has some genuine selection decisions to compete with for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

In goal, there is no reason to switch from Caoimhin Kelleher with Alisson Becker still out.

It’s tempting to throw Trent Alexander-Arnold back straight, but there are plenty of games to come so there’s no need to rush it just yet. You can go to the bank.

As the midweek match against FC Midtjylland is a Champions League stalemate, Joel Matip and Fabinho are fine to start in central defense.

In midfield, again, Naby Keita is a welcome option, but the triumvirate of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones can be safe again knowing they won’t be on Wednesday.

Up front, there is intrigue. But Roberto Firmino impressed in his cameo against Ajax, so he deserves a start, and maybe it’s time to reunite the traditional three forwards once more.

After all, the Lobos will undoubtedly expect Diogo Jota to line up against them. But it can wait until a little later.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; N. Williams, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Bad, Firmino, Mane.

Paul Gorst – Trent Alexander-Arnold Returns

So the long-awaited return of the Liverpool faithful at Anfield.

Also the return of another in Trent Alexander-Arnold.

After training this week, I would be inclined to give the Reds star the thumbs up in the last four which include Fabinho, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson.

That constitutes Liverpool’s first-choice defense today and he will not play in Denmark next week so much-needed time off awaits him after this.

Caoimhin Kelleher also maintains his place in goal after a consistent performance against Ajax.

I go for a midfield two from Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson with Diogo Jota fitting in the attack alongside Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Henderson; Salah, Jota, Mane; Firmino

Connor Dunn – Tried and Tested in the Top Three

Injury issues once again dominate issues related to team selection.

However, positively, a couple of concerns are beginning to ease with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita returning to training.

However, that raises a conundrum as to whether to start the pair against the Wolves because they don’t want or need to rush either of them.

With that in mind, I’m going for Neco Williams as a right-back after an excellent performance against Ajax in the middle of the week.

The entire defensive setup looked very safe in that Champions League game and I’m going to stick with it.

That means Caoimhin Kelleher keeps his place ahead of Adrian in goal and Fabinho joins Joel Matip in center defense.

I hope the game goes in Liverpool’s favor for the first hour so that Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas are sold out.

In midfield, the ubiquitous Gini Wijnaldum joins captain Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones continues after his excellent performance on the continent.

Leading my line, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah continue but I will bring Roberto Firmino back to the starting eleven.

Diogo Jota can then go in against his old club to make an impact.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher; N. Williams, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Jones; Mal, Firmino, Mane

Sam Carroll – Fab four all begin

A front four again? Why not. Give the returning fans something to cheer on, Jurgen.

And well, if it’s good enough for Manchester City at the Etihad, it’s good enough for Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

Caoimhin Kelleher continues in goal but the game comes too early for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Fabinho joins Joel Matip at the rear, while Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum anchor the midfield.

Roberto Firmino plays in front of them with Mohamed Salah in the lead.

My team (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; N. Williams, Matip, Fabinho, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Henderson; Jota, Firmino, Mane; Incorrect
