Gini Wijnaldum admits that Diogo Jota is even better than his new Liverpool teammates had anticipated.
Jota has had an outstanding start to his Anfield career since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a starting value of £ 41 million in September, scoring nine goals in 15 appearances.
The forward, who turned 24 on Friday, hopes to start the Premier League’s visit to his former club on Sunday night.
And Wijnaldum acknowledges that Jota’s instant impact has been a pleasant surprise for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
“He will be very happy to play against his old team,” said the Dutchman. “I am always happy when I play against Newcastle, my old club.
“It’s going to be a great game for him, and also a game that he can enjoy.
“I can see that he is even better than we think. Now we train with him and play games with him, we can really see what kind of player he is, what kind of quality player he is.”
“He showed it with the start he has (made) at the club.”
The Wolves are just four points behind second-ranked Liverpool, having had their best start to a Premier League campaign.
The Reds have won all four Premier League games since Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was promoted to the top flight three seasons ago, but Wijnaldum said: “Wolves are always a very difficult test for us. I don’t really remember a game. easy against them.
“If you look at the scoreboard, there was not much difference in goals. They are on a good streak, it will be more difficult than in recent seasons.”
For the first time since March, supporters will be present inside Anfield on Sunday with 2,000 allowed under the new coronavirus guidelines.
And Wijnaldum has explained the excitement among the Liverpool squad for the return of the fans.
