Watch: Thundersnow hits Edinburgh for the second night in a row

The activity followed similar explosions and bright flashes that startled many in the early hours of Friday, prompting some to call the police to report a possible explosion in the capital.

The blizzard could be heard throughout the city shortly after 1 a.m., in several bursts.

Residents took to social media, with one of them saying, “THUNDERSNOW !!! The Third World War has just broken out in Edinburgh. “

Heavy rains and hail followed, adding to already high water levels in many parts of the city.

Another resident posted on Twitter: “More storms and lightning in #Edinburgh tonight, sounds like the sky is about to collapse, and so much hail / snow / rain. Enough 2020, please … #Thundersnow. “
