A severe weather warning has been issued as parts of the UK continue to cool to the bone tonight.
The Met Office warns of the possibility of snow until midnight tonight in a large area of the UK.
A statement from the forecaster says: “Outbreaks of rain, sleet, and snow can still cause difficult driving conditions.
“Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer travel times by road, bus and train.
“Increased likelihood of traffic collisions due to difficult driving conditions.”
He adds: “The area of humid climate currently in this region, with snow falling via higher routes (above 300 m), and potential for stronger gusts to carry temporary snow to around 100 m above sea level. .
“Accumulations are not expected to exceed a few centimeters and will often be transient.
“This humid weather will gradually recede late tonight and into the early hours of Saturday.”
The warning has been extended for the remainder of the night as snow continues to fall in some places.

Icy patches are expected to form overnight.

Covers Central, Tayside and Fife including Angus, Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross.
Grampian, including Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray.
Highlands and Eilean Siar, including Highland.
SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, including East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders, West Lothian.
It warns of persistent, sometimes heavy rains, which can cause some interruptions in the trip.
Some homes and businesses are likely to be flooded.
Bus and train services will likely be affected due to longer travel times.
Spraying and flooding on the roads will likely lengthen travel times.
And there are likely to be interruptions in power supplies and other services.
The initial warning was updated and extended until 6 a.m. Saturday with the area extended further west.
It warns of more persistent, sometimes heavy, rains that develop on Friday afternoon and continue into Friday night.
More rain accumulations of 20 to 40 mm are expected quite wide and on some hills and mountains it can fall 60 mm.
