Mourinho compares Spurs to Man Utd after LASK draw

José Mourinho questioned his player’s attitude as Tottenham struggled to a 3-3 draw against LASK in the Europa League.

The Spurs only needed a draw Thursday night against LASK, but they made it tough in Austria.

The locals brought the game closer to Mourinho’s and were the best throughout the 90 minutes.

The Treble: Cavani the difference, WBA resurgence, Spurs too strong

LASK took the lead in the 42nd minute through Peter Michorl, but Gareth Bale leveled from the penalty spot before the break. Tottenham apparently took control when Heung-Min Son put them in front shortly after the restart.

But the locals kept fighting and drew in the 84th minute through Johannes Effestein. Then, almost immediately afterward, the Spurs hit back when they received another penalty.

This time the responsibility fell on Dele Alli, who calmly left him at home. Mourinho’s team faced further frustration at the end when Mamoudou Karamkoko’s long-range shot earned LASK a point.

A draw was all it took for the Spurs to secure their place in the knockout stages. But this was a disappointing night as Mourinho’s men were doing well in their prime.

In her post-match interview, cited by Mirror, Mourinho criticized the attitude of his players against LASK:

“I have a feeling from my experience that some of the players feel like they shouldn’t be here. I think it is a question of attitude, which I have experienced before.

“Even at Manchester United I had a similar situation when we lost two away games in the group stage and when we reach the round of 16 you have better opponents and more difficulties, the team faces games differently.

“The point is that the group stage of the Europa League does not motivate some players. I knew it. Some players are essential for us and I always need them on the field in any circumstance.

“I need a couple of these players to give the team a bit of balance, such as Hojbjerg e Son; without them I don’t think we would have a positive result.”
