The parliamentarian for the Avonmouth area has issued a statement in response to the news of the ‘serious explosion’ in the area.

The fire service currently has six teams at the scene of this ongoing incident.
The Avon Fire and Rescue Service, which is leading this incident, has said that several people were injured in the blast and that they were still searching for people.
A helicopter has also been seen landing at the scene.
Darren Jones, the Bristol North West MP, said: “Thank you to our police, ambulance and fire services for responding so quickly to this serious explosion in Avonmouth this morning.
“This is the second serious incident at Avonmouth in as many weeks.
“Once our emergency services have resolved this incident and assisted injured workers, I will call the Environment Agency, the Health and Safety Regulator and others to ensure that lessons are learned for the future.”
In October, 20,000 tonnes of scrap was engulfed in a fire at Avonmouth docks, near the M5 motorway.
In a previous statement, Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “We have been called to a major explosion at 11:22 am at a warehouse in Avonmouth.
“Teams from Avonmouth, Southmead, Yate, Patchway, Kingswood and Temple are currently in attendance.
“We are joined by the Avon and Somerset Police and Ambulance at the scene.”
The ambulance service has also issued a statement about what happened.

It read: “The South Western Ambulance Service is responding to a serious incident at the King’s Weston Lane facility, Avonmouth, Bristol.
“We have assisted with multiple resources along with fire and police personnel.”
Bristol Waste has temporarily closed the Avonmouth Recycling Center and Reuse Shop after ‘a nearby incident’; it is unclear if this is related.
