Now Eton’s theology professor claims ‘students are being indoctrinated’ as he resigns from the role of head of ‘perspectives’ classes after firing ‘sexism row’ English tutor

A professor at Eton College has attacked the “progressive ideology” with which he feels that students are being “indoctrinated” in the elite school.
Dr. Luke Martin resigned as director of the “perspectives” classes after his colleague Will Knowland was fired for a controversial gender role conference aimed at one of these lessons.
The theology professor accused director Simon Henderson of presiding over an atmosphere of “religious fundamentalism” where deviations can lead to ridicule or “formal discipline.”

Knowland, an English teacher, had wanted to give a questionable lecture to boys in which he cited incorrect statistics on rape and approvingly cited an article saying that women wanted to be “overwhelmed by the sheer power of masculinity.”
The talk, called the patriarchy paradox, was never used in a class, but was uploaded to Knowland’s personal YouTube page, where there is also a video of him lifting weights.
Knowland refused to remove the video and was fired, but has since raised tens of thousands of pounds to support a labor court.
Many students are demanding his reinstatement, including a boy who was sent home after writing to Mr. Henderson demanding that the principal resign. But other figures, including Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker, who initially supported Knowland, have distanced themselves after being told the actual content of his lecture.
Dr. Martin, in his letter posted online by a Knowland supporter, said he was quitting the major prospect classes.
He said he disagreed with Mr. Knowland’s comments, but added: ‘Why should I? The point of perspectives is that children are exposed to several perspectives, some of which they will disagree with. ” She said Mr. Knowland expected another staff member to give a talk offering the opposite point of view, but a teacher had “declined the invitation.”

Dr Martin argued that Henderson was monitoring a “disturbing trend” at the school of £ 42,500 a year, which counts Princes William and Harry among its oldest children.
He added: ‘There is a growing promotion of an ideology called’ progressive ‘, which claims to be inclusive, tolerant and kind.
But what I have come to realize in recent years is that it is remarkably similar, in one particular respect, to the forms of religious fundamentalism with which I am familiar. If you do not agree, you are excluded; if you think differently, it is not tolerated; and if you object, make fun of you, or face formal discipline.
“I am increasingly concerned that some schools, including Eton, are moving toward a point where it is accurate to say that they are trying to indoctrinate their students into this worldview.”
Dr. Martin requested the reinstatement of Mr. Knowland. In an open letter, Mr. Knowland said: “I defended my freedom to express information but also, and more importantly, the freedom of children to receive it.”
Eton strongly denies that the case is an attack on free speech, but it relates more directly to discipline among employees and the preservation of the school’s reputation.
An Eton spokesperson said Dr. Martin’s letter had been received by the vice chancellor, who is presiding over Knowland’s appeal hearing. Dr. Martin could not be reached for comment.
