Highest rise in daily cases this week as Leicestershire enters Level 3 – This is where they are

More than 300 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours in Leicester and Leicestershire.

With 349 new infections recorded, it is the largest daily increase on record since last week.

About 171 were in the city, and the remaining 178 were spread across the county.

Broken down at the district and borough level, Charnwood – 36 and Blaby – 34 posted the largest increases.

Hinckley and Bosworth added 30 new cases to their mobile toll and Oadby and Wigston 21.

Both Melton and North West Leicestershire reported 20 new cases.

About 17 new infections were identified in Harborough.

The new cases, updated today at 4 p.m., mean that the total number of cases in the city and county since the onset of the pandemic area by area is :

  • Leicester: 17,813
  • Blaby: 3,170
  • Charnwood: 6,377
  • Harborough: 2,061
  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 2,533
  • Melton: 1,154
  • North West Leicestershire: 2,344
  • Oadby and Wigston: 2,472

In other coronavirus news, Leicester hospitals today announced more than 39 covid-related deaths, including a patient in his 30s.

In the meantime, the Leicester City Council is continuing its door-to-door testing program in an attempt to reduce infection rates and the number of cases.

The latest seven-day infection rates, area by area, are:

  • Leicester: 296.1 cases per 100,000
  • Blaby: 229.5 cases per 100,000
  • Charnwood: 135.1 boxes per 100,000
  • Harborough: 169.5 cases per 100,000
  • Hinckley and Bosworth: 107.8 cases per 100,000
  • Melton: 160.1 cases per 100,000
  • North West Leicestershire: 171.8 cases per 100,000
  • Oadby and Wigston: 328 cases per 100,000

Recent daily increases:

  • Tuesday December 1: 259
  • Monday, November 30: 212
  • Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29 (combined total): 543
  • Thursday, November 26: 387
  • Wednesday, November 25: 420
