Oscar-nominated star Ellen Page has come out as a transgender man named Elliot, six years after he publicly revealed that he was gay.
The 33-year-old actor, who has been married to dancer and choreographer Emma Portner since 2018, took to Twitter Tuesday morning to share an emotional statement with the reveal, writing: ‘Hello friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he / they and my name is Elliot.
‘I feel lucky to be writing this. Having come to this place in my life.
Elliot, who received an Oscar nod for his role in the 2008 hit film Juno, asked his followers and fans for ‘patience’, admitting that he is ‘scared’ by the ‘invasion, hatred, jokes and violence’. So you can face the breakthrough.
“My work is real, but also fragile,” said the actor, adding: “The truth is that, despite feeling deeply happy at this moment and knowing how privileged I am, I am also afraid.”

The actor, who is currently preparing to film the third season of the Netflix hit The Umbrella Academy, also revealed changes to his official social media accounts, posting on Twitter under the username @TheElliotPage and on Instagram as @elliotpage.
Elliot thanked his loved ones for their support throughout his journey, expressing his ‘overwhelming gratitude’ for helping him reach a stage where he felt comfortable ‘pursuing his authentic self’.
Shortly after the actor released his statement, his wife Emma expressed her public support for Elliot on Instagram, while reiterating her partner’s request for patience.
‘I am very proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world, ” Emma wrote.
‘I also ask for patience and privacy [and] May you join me in fervently supporting trans life every day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in itself. Shine on sweet E. I love you so much. ‘
Elliot’s decision to publicly reveal that he is transgender comes nearly three years after the couple married in a secret ceremony, after having been publicly dating for six months.
The actor also credited pioneers in the transgender community who have already made the world a better place.
They wrote: ‘I feel overwhelming gratitude for the amazing people who have supported me throughout this journey. I can’t begin to express how extraordinary it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.
‘I have been infinitely inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity, and your relentless work to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer all the support I can and continue to fight for a more loving and equal society. ‘
Star: Elliot (seen in November 2019) thanked his loved ones for their support throughout his journey and gave credit to the pioneers in the transgender community who have already made the world a better place.
