Two teenagers have been praised for their “wonderful kindness” after returning £ 700 that they found on the street to the owner of the money.
Aimee Reilly and Faith Leiba, both 15 and Year 11, discovered the cash while walking to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School on Highfield Road in Widnes.
Instead of pocketing the hefty sum or spending a lot of money, they immediately turned it over to their teachers upon arrival at school.
The staff then worked during the day to locate the owner of the money.
A spokeswoman for the school said they were eager to make sure the students’ “wonderful act of kindness” met its goal.
After a series of calls from residents, the staff were delighted to raise the money with Widnes businessman Jay Adams, owner of Outback Garden Designs, who had been working in the area when the money was lost.
Jay was reported to be “absolutely delighted” to get it back and gave each student £ 20 as a reward for their good deed.
She also sent a card and flowers to the school saying, “Thank you for all your effort and kindness.
“Your students are a credit to you.”
In a joint statement, Aimee and Faith said: “We couldn’t believe it when we found the money on the way to school.
“We realized immediately that someone would miss it and that we needed to help reunite it with its owner.
“We are so glad you found your way back home!”
Danielle Scott, Principal of Saints Peter and Paul, said, “Here at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School, we are always working to instill our core values of respect, compassion, and aspiration in our students.

“Last week we were very proud when Aimee and Faith embodied these values perfectly and carried themselves with such integrity.
“Our local community is very important to us and we are delighted to have been able to help a local business avoid what would have been a serious loss.”
