Liverpool have been given an early opportunity to exact revenge on Aston Villa after the two teamed up in the FA Cup third round.
The Reds will head to Villa Park for the tie, which will take place the weekend of January 9.
It is Jurgen Klopp’s team’s first return to Villa since they suffered the club’s toughest defeat since 1963 when they thrashed 7-2 in the Premier League last month.
This is the fourth year in a row Liverpool have faced a Premier League rival in the third round, following draws against Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton again last season.
Surprisingly, in their 25 national cup draws since Klopp took office in October 2015, Liverpool have now been paired to face a top flight team 16 times.
Villa’s final FA Cup encounter saw the Midlanders win 2-1 in the semi-final at Wembley before losing 4-0 to Arsenal in the final.
Liverpool’s most recent draw at Villa Park saw John Barnes and Peter Beardsley score in a 2-0 victory in the fourth round in 1988.
