Despite months of negotiations, a French presidential official said the UK needs to clarify its positions and “really negotiate” to secure a trade deal with the bloc. The French official said: “The priority is for the British to clarify their positions and actually negotiate to find an agreement. The EU also has interests to fight for, those of fair competition for its businesses and those of its fishermen ”.
Now, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that many EU states are becoming extremely impatient over the lack of progress in the talks.
However, he added: “A deal is in everyone’s interest.”
EU officials have resumed crucial talks in London with the aim of striking a post-Brexit trade deal.
The talks have been billed as the last “major” chance to avoid a no-deal Brexit in late December.

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said today that a free trade agreement between Brussels and London should be reached “this week if possible.”
On Sunday, UK Foreign Minister Dominic Raab said the “last really important week” was about to start.
The fishing industry only contributes 0.1 per cent of the UK’s total economic output.
Boris Johnson has little room for concessions in this area.
Fishing is a highly symbolic industry for both France and the UK.
French President Emmanuel Macron fears a huge backlash from French fishermen if he fails to maintain catch quotas in British waters similar to those before Brexit.
