Argentine justice officials are investigating the death of soccer player Diego Maradona and ordered on Sunday the search of the properties of his personal doctor, a local prosecutor’s office reported.
Maradona died at age 60 of a heart attack on Wednesday. The search warrant was requested by prosecutors from the affluent Buenos Aires suburb of San Isidro and signed by a local judge, according to a statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office.
“Yesterday [Saturday] the investigation and substantiation of the evidence continued with the taking of statements from people, including direct relatives of the deceased, ”he said.
“By virtue of the evidence collected, it was considered necessary to request records at the home and office of Dr. Leopoldo Luque,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in the statement.
The prosecution did not provide information on what motivated the investigation.
Maradona’s lawyer, Matías Moria, said on Thursday that he would call for a full investigation into the circumstances of the footballer’s death, criticizing what he said was a slow response by emergency services.
“The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which was criminal idiocy,” Matías said Thursday in a Twitter post.
