A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being out of shape due to drinking or drugs.
He was held in police custody Saturday morning for questioning.
West Midlands police officers are now appealing to witnesses with any information or those with dash cam footage to contact them to help with their investigation.
Sergeant Dean Caswell of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Sadly, one man lost his life and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are in the early stages of our investigation, but we are eager to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and has not spoken to us yet.”
“We are particularly interested in anyone who has been to the area and has dash cam footage.”
The collision took place near the junction of Wood Green Road and Stanley Road.
Photos from the scene show the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit on the scene in the early hours, with part of the road cordoned off.
