What to do if your gift card has been deleted
Currys PC World told MoneySavingExpert.com on Friday night that all customers who have lost funds will have them returned to their gift card “as soon as possible,” although no precise timelines are given. Some customers have reported that they have been told they will receive a replacement gift card in “3-5 days.”
The retailer will contact affected customers and work to restore funds, but if you have lost money it is worth contacting them anyway to make sure you are aware of your case. For different ways to get in touch, see their customer service page. If you are unhappy with what happened or think you lost or incurred additional expenses as a result, it is also worth making a formal complaint to Currys PC World and asking them to fix things.
Many customers are unhappy that gift card problems mean they have missed out on Black Friday deals; Currys PC World is understood to be aware of this frustration and seeks to ensure that customers are not at a disadvantage. We have asked what this means in practice and if the offers could still be fulfilled if you were unable to complete a purchase and will update this story when we hear from you.
I have an unspent gift card, can I use it anyway?
It is currently unclear if there are ongoing problems with gift card spending. We’ve urgently asked Currys PC World to confirm that gift cards are now safe to use, but for now it’s worth being careful.
When in doubt, it may be best to check directly with Currys PC World BEFORE paying with a gift card to make sure everything works normally again.
What does Currys PC World say?
A spokesperson for Currys PC World said: “Due to the unprecedented volume of customers shopping online with Currys PC World this Black Friday, our website experienced a temporary outage. Unfortunately, gift card transactions were affected.
“We will ensure that all customers affected by this issue have full funds returned to their gift cards as soon as possible. We apologize for this issue and understand that customers will be disappointed that they were unable to insure their products.”
