Sir Alex Ferguson says that Marcus Rashford’s incredible efforts to help young people mean that he is now in a position to give the legendary Scotsman advice, and not the other way around.
The legendary former Manchester United manager has joined forces with British philanthropist Sir Michael Moritz to match every donation made to the FareShare program, championed by Rashford, to help combat child food poverty.
In The Times newspaper’s Christmas appeal, Ferguson and Moritz’s fund could raise up to £ 2 million for the show, and the Scotsman paid tribute to Rashford’s incredible efforts.
“You can’t forget your upbringing because that’s what it did to me,” he said. Times Radio.
“I remember reading in a newspaper that said ‘Alex Ferguson has done well despite coming from Govan.’
“It’s because I came from Govan that I did well.
“It’s because of the family I had, I made sure the food was on the table, that you represented your mother and father all the time.”
When asked if he had any advice for Rashford, Ferguson added: “You should give me some advice because what he’s doing at 23 is great for a young person.”
“I don’t need to tell Marcus because I think there is humility in the way Marcus lives his life.
“His feet are on the ground. There are great qualities to carry you through life, no doubt about that.
“And football has not changed it.
“There is a danger in football that it can change people. Money can change people. Stardom can change people.
“Getting into a position in life can sometimes be a problem because not everyone can handle success well.
“And right now Marcus is doing very, very well.”
