Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the third Fantastic Beasts film, Warner Bros. announced.

Mikkelsen is known for his role as the serial killer Hannibal Lecter on the American television series Hannibal.

The 55-year-old has made a name for himself playing villains, such as Le Chiffre in the Bond movie Casino Royale and Kaecilius in the Marvel movie Doctor Strange.

He has also starred in Danish dramas like The Hunt and A Royal Affair.

Grindelwald was played by Depp in the first and second films of the series and was to reprise the role in the third. Harry Potter cleave.
