Brexit News: Boris Johnson said to step down now after EU takes “extremist position” | Politics | News

Despite Johnson’s October deadline for approval of a deal with the European Union, the two sides have held urgent talks to try to secure a trade deal before the end of the transition period in December. But negotiators have been unable to agree on issues such as fishing rights and state aid.

With reports claiming that a trade deal between the UK and the EU will be reached in the next 14 days, Brexit supporters have claimed that the EU has taken an “extremist position” that is impossible to “reach halfway” .

The Brexit website and research group Facts4EU.org has urged Leave voters to bombard the prime minister with letters urging him to abandon trade talks.

They outlined two key messages for Johnson: stay away from the trade talks and rescind and void the “abominable Withdrawal Agreement.”

They said: “Almost four and a half years have passed and the EU still insists on totally unreasonable demands in trade talks that would prevent the UK from acting as a free and independent country after December 31, 2020.

“It’s time to walk.”

The website, which bills itself as the “most prolific researcher and editor of Brexit facts around the world,” added that EU negotiators are not prepared to offer a normal free trade agreement.

They continued: “The WA was predicted in a normal free trade agreement with the EU, similar to agreements the EU has signed with other major countries.

“This is something that its negotiators have not been prepared to offer and the UK is now within its right to annul the deal on the basis of a lack of good will and good faith from the EU.

“Unless this is done, the UK’s territory will be divided, the EU will restrict its economic and social freedoms and it will be subject to some EU laws for decades.

“This is not what it means to be a free, independent and sovereign nation.”

Yesterday, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier warned David Frost that he will withdraw from Brexit negotiations unless there is a major change in Downing Street in the next 48 hours.

Barnier warned his counterpart that continuing negotiations would be pointless unless the UK was willing to compromise on any outstanding issues.

But former Brexit Party MEP Ben Habib has warned that any compromise on a trade deal will jeopardize trust in the prime minister.

He said, “Can we trust Boris Johnson?

“When he said that the withdrawal agreement was dead; we would leave the entire EU as one UK and regain control of our cash, our laws and our borders I was busy negotiating the withdrawal agreement, leaving Northern Ireland in the EU Customs Union, offering to pay them £ 39 billion , accepting the EU state aid law and putting a border in the Irish Sea, thus dividing the country.

“How can Boris Johnson be trusted?”

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that these were “decisive days” for the negotiations with the United Kingdom.

She told MEPs: “These are decisive days for negotiations with the UK.

“But frankly, I can’t tell you today if there will be a deal in the end.

“We will do everything in our power to reach an agreement.

“We are ready to be creative.

“But we are not prepared to call into question the integrity of the single market, the main safeguard of European prosperity and wealth.”

This would take effect when the Brexit transition period ends at the end of the year.

However, talks remain stalled on European access to British fishing waters and the EU’s demand for a “level playing field”.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said Thursday that he was confident and hopeful that a Brexit trade deal could be reached with the European Union, and that the form of the deal was clear.

“There is a lot of work going on, and I think with a constructive attitude and goodwill on all sides we can get there,” Sunak told Sky.

“It’s clear what the shape of the deal looks like.
