Yes, thanks to all the people who read and comment on this blog live. Michael and I were overwhelmed with the pleasant comments, comments, jokes and remarks (and puns related to mango). It has been a pleasure and we hope to see you all very soon.

21:15

Thank you all for following our wild rides for the past ten weeks. It’s been a pleasure sharing those sweet sweet mango highs and white chocolate lows with you all. Where else could I publicly flirt with contestants from Northern Ireland and complain about the limited challenge instructions? Well, I guess Twitter. But it just wouldn’t have been the same.

21:14

Well I’m whining like a baby What a lovely little montage and a thoughtful tribute to Luis, the finalist for the 2014 season who passed away a few weeks ago.

This has been a difficult year, but throughout this crisis I have felt that television can be something that keeps us moving, offering us a boost and a distraction from all this endless monotony.

Bake Off has been one of those shows. Despite all the baking ups and downs in the last 10 weeks and the compelling reviews, how amazing is it that there is even a Bake Off to begin with ?! A thank you must go to the production team, hotel staff, catering and security, the folks at Channel 4, and the bakers … all of whom left their homes and loved ones for up to 10 weeks, just to have Bake Off. I could air as usual this year. It must have been an extraordinary effort, especially when it would have been so easy to cancel the show this year.

JEEPERS CREEPERS! It really did! In the most tense Bake Off finale the show has ever had, Peter managed to beat Dave with his awesome Bake Off Bubble Showstopper.

And what a well deserved victory too. His cakes were impressive, but what stood out the most was Peter himself. From modifying recipes so his gluten-intolerant brother could enjoy his cakes, to injecting as many Scottish ingredients into his creations as humanly possible, what became obvious was that Peter always baked with other people in mind.

If you want an example of how cool Peter is, watch him in the finale – clap at each baker and smile every time they get a compliment from the judges. He also gently lowered Paul a couple of pegs by reminding us that Bake Off has been on for half his life. Congratulations Peter!

OKEY KOKEY! RIGHTY HO! RINKY DINK! Silly Billy Peter has won the Bake Off!

The youngest winner we’ve seen, and the first from Bonnie Scotland (I don’t know if she realized what her heritage was, she didn’t mention it a hundred times). What a great effort he has put into over the weeks, maintaining a laid-back attitude while showing fabulous flair for flavors.

Also, they didn’t really focus on that, but every week at least one, if not both, of their cakes were gluten-free, which is particularly impressive.

21:04

I know it’s between Peter and Dave, but I’m very proud of Laura for persevering, especially when the going got tough.

21:04

Laughing that Peter couldn’t say anything when asked how it went.

21:01

Among the boys, no one can guess who made it …

21:01

God, this is tense. I think Peter might have stung him, but honestly, I have no idea …

Dave’s cake is “delicious” and “wonderfully light” according to Paul, but his babkas are “too hard.” Their choux buns are too flat too. They also have too much wet fill (camera side to side). Two of their cakes receive rave reviews, the other two do not.

A bold move by Dave to redo all the bakes he’s struggled with throughout the series. It seems to have been worth it, mostly.

20:58

According to the judges, Peter’s bake was “a little dry,” but the blackberry is “delicious” and the choux is “well-baked.” However, your friends (I had to google them, no idea) are disappointing and “heavy”. A “good effort”, so Dave could assure you if his baking tastes better. But yours is risky.

If you’re wondering if someone dropped your bake while carrying it from your table to the judges, it happened once in the Belgian version.

If you think the spectacular challenges in baking are getting too ridiculous in Belgium, someone decided to bake a spider cake upside down …

… and guess what happened next #gbbo pic.twitter.com/UZ0wB4j6pl

20:57

As always, Laura’s * actual * bake is really great in terms of textures and flavors. I hope you can see that you are proud.

20:56

The final judgement.

Laura looks like all the cakes stacked together, but visually it looks a bit random … I’m not going to lie.
