A 74-year-old man died after being hit by a car in an accident on a highway south of Liverpool.
Police today confirmed the death of the man who was hit by a BMW yesterday in Belle Vale.
Emergency services were called at Childwall Valley Road and Hartsbourne Avenue around 5.50pm to receive reports of an accident.
A large emergency response was in the area for some time, while officers conducted an investigation.
There was a road closure between the intersection of Childwall Valley Road and Chelwood Avenue, and Childwall Valley Road and Barnham Drive.
Merseyside police said today that the retiree sadly died at the scene after sustaining serious injuries in the incident. His relatives have been informed.
The force said a 31-year-old Belle Vale man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released under investigation.

Photos from the scene showed a large area sealed off when public transportation was diverted.
Now the road closures have been lifted.
A witness at the scene reported last night that workers rushed desperately to help the injured man.

A Merseyside police spokesman said: “We can confirm that the male pedestrian injured in a collision in Childwall yesterday (Monday 23 November) was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Relatives of the 74-year-old man have been informed.
