Boris Johnson has announced that soccer fans will be able to make their long-awaited return to soccer stadiums after the national shutdown.
Speaking to the House of Commons at 3:30 pm on Monday, the Prime Minister confirmed his plans for the holiday period as part of a ‘Covid Winter Plan’ starting on December 3.
A new, stricter three-tier system will be implemented that will dictate the severity of each area’s restrictions and will have a direct impact on the number of supporters allowed on each field across the country.
All of professional football has been played without a fan since March, but some fans can still watch their team live before the end of 2020.
Johnson has confirmed that outdoor venues found in Level 1 (lower risk) areas will be able to hold 4,000 spectators or fill 50% capacity (whichever is less).
Outdoor venues in Level 2 areas will be able to welcome 2,000 spectators or 50% of their capacity back to their stadiums. Under the new rules, areas at Level 3 will still be required to play behind closed doors under the new rules.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister said: “At levels 1 and 2, spectator sporting and business events will be allowed to resume freely inside and outside with capacity limits and social distancing that provide greater consistency with theaters and concerts”.
Johnson will also hold a formal press conference to further reiterate these new plans on Monday at 7pm.
The covered places will be allowed half the capacity outdoors, with respect to each level.
In the Premier League, tier restrictions could still mean that clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City will have to wait to host any fans, with both areas located at Tier 3 before the national shutdown, although this will be reviewed once. before. December 2nd.
