Three men have been stabbed to death in a London bloodshed weekend that also left an “innocent” woman fighting for her life.
The force said officers are trying to track down his family members and that no arrests have been made at this stage.
A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, of the Met’s South Crime Specialist team, which is leading the investigation, said: “I think this terrible incident may have been witnessed by several horrified bystanders.”
“I urge anyone who has not yet spoken to the police to contact us immediately. A man has lost his life in violent circumstances and we are doing everything we can to understand what has happened here.”
Also on Sunday, police were called after reports of a shooting on Westgate Street, Hackney, around 8.50pm.
The 32-year-old victim, who police believe was an innocent bystander, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
His condition is being treated as life threatening and his closest family members have been informed.
Scotland Yard said there have been no arrests and that a police cordon remains.
Detective Inspector Matt Webb of the Met’s North Crimes Department said: “I urge everyone who was in the vicinity of Westgate Street last night to come up and talk to us.
“We have been told that the area was occupied at the time of the shooting and I am sure someone has information that will help our investigation.
“At this initial stage, we believe the victim was an innocent bystander. I need your help to establish the events that led to the shooting. Please make that call. “
Despite the efforts of the emergency services, McCarrol was pronounced dead at the scene around 6:50 pm.
Their closest relatives have been informed and are supported by specially trained officers.
