Armed police officers were called to the cemetery and cordoned off the area while searching the crime scene.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Officers from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance attended and found a man suffering from stab wounds.”

“Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigations are underway to trace his relatives.”

Mourners at the cemetery were not allowed to leave while police investigated, MyLondon reported.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Police officers searched the area to learn more about the fatal attack.

A witness told MyLondon that four police cars came to the scene at the time of the stabbing.

They said: “I tried to take a photo, but the police rushed me, now there is a helicopter circling.”
